Module 1: Floral Expressions - Expressive flowers in watercolor - Don't be afraid of colours!
Almost all of my watercolor live courses start with this module! Because the expressive flower painting in watercolor is the absolute best thing I can imagine for a warm-up - and it helps so well to take away the fear of making mistakes and to embark on the wonderful adventure of watercolor. As always in my workshops, it is not about copying the template as precisely as possible, but rather interpreting it and using it only as inspiration for your own picture. This mixture of abstraction and color frenzy enables us to explore the diverse possibilities of watercolor, to experiment and at the same time to learn a lot about the relationship between water, paint, brush, paper and one of the most important elements of modern watercolor - chance. This form of painting opened my eyes and showed me completely new possibilities to put my creativity even more powerfully on paper. And so I now start almost every day with a relaxed and lively floral watercolor. In addition to the artistic freedom, I also enjoy this as a form of meditation and on dark days it is also my own personal therapy. .
In this approx. 3 hour course on Zoom I will show you all my secrets for expressive flower painting in watercolor. No matter whether you are a beginner or advanced - everyone gets their money's worth here. All participants will also receive a large number of digital templates, followed by a few step-by-step picture series for further practice and a personal picture review - if you wish, you can also send us an email after the course. Let's indulge in colors and have fun together: Happy Painting!
Module 2: Quick sketches in watercolor - the best training for easy-going watercolors!
For me, quickly sketching motifs with a brush and watercolor paint is one of the most important exercises I teach my workshop participants. One of the goals is to reduce the motif to its essential components and to become familiar with it, so that later you can gain more security for the actual watercolor and can then only concentrate on painting. In addition, I can try out whether I prefer a more drawn or more extensively painted version of the motif. I usually make several sketches and each takes no more than a few minutes. Almost any paper is suitable for this, and it should be as cheap as possible so that you can really sketch without restraint and not be afraid of making mistakes. It is advisable to test different approaches and to paint as casually as possible. For these sketches I use almost all the brushes that are otherwise used in my watercolors, because each brush offers so many possible variations and all of these taken together make a loose watercolor really come alive. Using many different templates, we will explore together how differently we can interpret the original motif. With a little practice you can get almost any motif "under control". It is also the most effective way to develop your personal brush stroke.

Module 3: Expressive & effective brushwork in watercolor - use brushes correctly
My watercolor painting is almost exclusively about expression. What I paint is not entirely unimportant, but how I interpret and paint something is crucial for me.
My most important tools are my brushes. At best, when I'm training well, they feel like an extension of my arms making direct contact with paint, water, and paper.
That's why it's so important that I know my brushes and all their possibilities. Using various motifs, I will show you how you can optimally use your tools to give your painting your own personal touch.
After all, there is nothing more important in art than individual expression. This course will help you develop your own style & expression in watercolor. It is important to use the funds sparingly but as effectively as possible.
Module4: Make it your motive! Your personal signature style in watercolor
The personal "handwriting", the individual expression, the unique - especially in watercolor it is what distinguishes artists from most hobby painters. But even if painting is "just" a nice hobby, it's a lot more fun if you manage to create your pictures with a certain recognition value.
Of course we can't develop our personal style in a three-hour workshop, but in this course module I'll give you all sorts of tips on how to make your work something unique. I'll show you how I prepare my watercolor paintings so that I can concentrate fully on my brush strokes while painting. Ultimately, only practice leads to mastery, but with the inspiration from this workshop it will be much easier for you.
In this course we will paint two motifs together, which I will use to give you everything you need to know to develop your own style. And above all, we will have a lot of fun painting together. Happy Painting!
This is the three-hour concluding module of my course series Watercolor - Fast & Spontaneous "I take my freedom!".

Herzlich willkommen!
Warm welcome! I'm Carsten Wieland, a passionate watercolor artist and your creative coach and course leader in the online workshops Watercolor - Fast & Spontaneous "I'll take my freedom". I borrowed the title from my live workshops at boesner and at the Kunstfabrik Hannover. Since I had so many inquiries from all over Germany about my workshops, I decided to offer them online now. Because the complete program of my 3-day live workshops is not so easy to transfer to an online format, I came up with four modules that build on each other, but are also fun (and meaningful) individually. For me, the lively and expressive watercolor is in the foreground, which is not necessarily about perfection, but the individual expression is in the foreground. So be careful: if you want to copy ugly photos, you've come to the wrong place. If you see the template as a source of inspiration and want to create your own image from it, you've come to the right place.
In recent years, to accompany my workshops and painting demonstrations at home and abroad, I have published several books and tutorials on watercolor painting and am currently working on a new book that will make the concept of my workshops comprehensible in book form.
In addition to some of my own exhibitions and participation in international watercolor exhibitions, I am a member of the jury of the German Watercolor Society (DAG/GWS) and Country Leader Germany at the annual watercolor festival FabrianoInAcquarello in Italy, where a good 1000 watercolor painters come together meet from all over the world.
If you want to see how I paint, visit my Youtube channel with hundreds of watercolor videos.
Let's celebrate the colors together and plunge into the adventure of watercolor together - Happy Painting!
Watercolor is my passion!!! And I'm happy to share my fascination for this wonderful art medium with you in my books and tutorials - and for some time now also in my workshops and courses. In addition to my courses at Boesner and at the Kunstfabrik Hannover, I would now like to offer you my own courses again - both online and live.
